As the number of 3G LTE and WiMAX networks grows, so does the market for backhaul. In 2009, backhaul equipment spending totalled $7.2 billion worldwide. It is likely to hit $10.4 billion by 2014.

Many Chinese telecom equipment firms including ZTE and Huawei employ several hundred software engineers in Bangalore. Chinese white goods manufacturers have already made their presence felt in India. On the other hand, the Indian software firms are setting up their bases in China, and some firms have started manufacturing opertions. Tata Consultancy Services has a development centre in Hangzhou. Cooperation is just like two pagodas - one hardware and the other software. When combined, we can take the leadership position in the world.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has recently issued guidelines regarding security clearance for the import of telecom equipment.
