  Communic Asia 2010 turns 21

Meant to address the complete convergence of technology, CommunicAsia 2010 celebrated its 21st year. It discussed the development needs and opportunities in the dynamic IT and telecommunication industry under one roof at Asia's ICT platform. This platform is one of the ideal marketplaces for bringing sellers and buyers together for latest convergent technologies and applications.

This year, products showcased ranged from the latest technologies in applications, solutions to hardware. The key buzz words this year at the CommunicAsia show were 3D, cloud computing and next-generation broadband. One major change this year was participation by a large number of startups and smaller companies. Spice Mobiles showcased its range of mobile phones. CommScope, Inc., a global player in infrastructure solutions for communication networks, through its Andrew Solutions brand, provides radio frequency subsystem solutions for wireless networks. For the first time in Asia Pacific, CommScope showcased its complete portfolio of wireless, enterprise and broadband solutions at CommunicAsia 2010. With its Connect and Evolve theme, their booth was a reflection of the communications evolution across Asia Pacific, where operators and businesses seek to grow their networks while meeting the demands of the future. Irdeto marked its entry in Singapore during the same period.

More than 1,400 exhibitors participated in the show from across the world to showcase their latest products/services. A key focus at this year's show was seen towards devices that promised to provide consumers with great mobility and Internet connectivity. China-based Huawei's SmaKit S7 Android 2.1 tablet scored plenty of attention at the show with its generous 7-inch 800x400-pixel touchscreen.

Nokia used the platform to showcase N8, which is Nokia's first Symbian3 smartphone that comes with a 12-mega pixel camera and 720p high-definition video. With a 3.5-inch 640x360-pixel touchscreen and 16GB of onboard memory, the N8 is the camera-phone to watch out for in Q3.

Aside from their "Yahoo! Phone" from Alcatel, Yahoo! also announced their Messenger One app in beta at CommunicAsia 2010. Fighting rival Google in any way they possibly can, Yahoo!'s new application, isn’t just designed for chatting with online buddies, but the application allows you to log into your account and access chat, your Yahoo! Mail inbox, upload and back up contacts to your Yahoo! account and also provided the latest news feeds.

Sony Ericsson showcased sixth Xperia-branded device, which is a midrange Android smartphone due to be launched in the third quarter with Android 1.6, to be upgraded to Android 2.1 later in the year. The "X8" apparently has a 3-inch HVGA touchscreen that claims to be scratch-resistant. At the same time, Samsung has announced additions to its smartphone series, Galaxy, Omnia and Wave at the CommunicAsia 2010, reaffirming its support for Android and Windows Mobile along with its own Bada platform.

Among Android phones, it launched Galaxy 3 and Galaxy 5. The new Galaxy Beam is based on Android 2.1 platform with pico projector. The company also displayed Omnia Pro 4 and Omnia Pro 5 based on Windows Mobile 6.5. The vendor also showcased Wave 2 and Wave Pro based on the Linux-based Bada platform.

In addition, new at the CommunicAsia 2010 Summit this year were highly topical forums on Converged Device Management, Getting in on the Cloud, Network Security, Mobile Value Added Services, as well as two new and practical workshops.
