Tell us something about Andrew Telecom and the key target segments? Andrew Solutions, a CommScope company, designs, manufactures and delivers innovative and essential equipment and solutions for the global wireless infrastructure market - from top-of-the-tower base station antennas, transmission line systems, microwave backhaul products, and base transceiver station (BTS) radio equipment to in-building coverage and capacity systems, radio frequency (RF) signal distribution products, and network optimization software. Andrew also supplies cabinet solutions for wireless, wireline, and fuel cell applications. Andrew supports wireless network operators and original equipment manufacturers from facilities in 35 countries around the world. Over the years, Andrew has developed an industry-leading product portfolio and for India, we address more of the RF footprint (total solution provider) than anyone else and we are the leading supplier for the largest number of components in the RF path market. Our goal is to extend our leadership to 3G networks and we will achieve this by helping out customers to preserve their existing infrastructure, minimizing impact to existing networks and facilitating speed to market. All our products, including 3G products and solutions, come with our commitment for quality - Andrew's products are approved by TEC and technically preferred by the Indian operators. In fact, Andrew has done extensive research and development on 3G technologies and having been involved with major 3G build-ups across the world has added to our experience in new technologies and new frequencies. As a result, we have an extensive range of 3G antennas, repeaters to help operators deploy high quality networks quickly. Moreover, customers can rely on our experience to integrate their 2G/3G feeder systems with our diplexers and combiners which can help to reduce the number of radio antennas on a radio tower, reducing the weight and loading from wind and potential ice, as well as the necessary size of the tower itself. What is your growth strategy in India? High growth rates are expected for India, and the impending issuance of 3G licences this year means that operators need to ensure that their existing infrastructure on 2G will be able to co-site and work with new infrastructure for 3G with minimal interference or even upgrading the existing infrastructure to support 3G. From an operator's perspective, the deployment of network hardware solutions that are scalable, future proof and cap-ex efficient will be a critical factor of success in meeting consumer demands for coverage and performance. Operators need to ensure that customers can connect to new services in mature markets in order to increase their ARPU. By deploying the appropriate network optimization software at a fraction of the cost of a new base station site, mobile operators can avoid the issues of network overload and dropped calls for their subscribers. The software, which includes performance management, traffic management and capacity support, allows network planners to fine-tune capacity by a click of a mouse and understand underlying network infrastructure. It also plays a critical role in asset management by monitoring individual resources and the levels they are working at. Service providers can run real-time scenarios to explore the most efficient and cost-effective option to enhance coverage and capacity, as well as monitor core network in real-time to optimize delivery of service. Benchmarking tools are increasingly being used to review and enhance subscriber experience, by allowing specific network problems to be fixed. What kind of investments you are making in India? We have been making - and will continue to make - investments in India to meet the growing demand for wireless infrastructure products in India. Our factory in Goa first started as a 10-man operation in a 1,000-sqm facility in 1997 and has grown to a 25,800-sqm state-of-the-art manufacturing and distribution facility with more than 1,200 employees today. The ISO: 9001-2000 certified plant houses the manufacturing lines for RF cable products, base station antennas and microwave antennas as well as support and administrative staff. In addition, we also provide value-added services like site-kitting to our customers. This means that RF subsystem parts such as cables, connectors and base station antennas can be consolidated and shipped complete to the cell site on demand. We can even pre-fit parts prior to shipping, significantly reducing installation time at the cell-site. With our local manufacturing, distribution, technical and customer support plus our sales offices in Delhi and Mumbai, we are confident of providing local customers with a wide range of wireless infrastructure products, giving them benefits in the form of quicker delivery time, optimal costs and product quality. What are the technology and business trends in this space? As far as telecommunications and its related fields are concerned, regulations play a pivotal role. You have to be aware of the regulatory processes so that approvals can be issued on time. As ARPU drops, operators need to invest in technologies that can enhance and optimize their network while keeping an eye on costs. By working closely with our customers, we can then offer even more customized solutions that meet their evolving objectives. Developing markets focus more on cost, and require simple and cost-effective infrastructure solutions, like the 2G and upcoming 3G and WiMAX rollouts in India. Developed markets on the other hand will focus on areas such as network optimization, 3G, site acquisitions, and Green networks. We also see a lot of testing and initial adoption of WiMAX in India, Taiwan and Japan, as well as LTE technology trials and planning across APAC. With the rise of mobile data services, the need to provide complete access is crucial and we have been seeing a lot of carriers looking to improve their in-building solutions and this requires the ability to provide a seamless end-to-end solution. As operators look to maximize network efficiency, another opportunity lies in the use of Green products to help lower power consumption; and in the usage of alternative metals such as lightweight aluminum which will cut down transport cost. |
