The much-awaited 9th VARIndia Star Nite Awards, 2010, the premier diary date for IT Channel community in India, was held with great pomp and fanfare on 26th November, 2010 at Hotel InterContinental Eros, Nehru Place, in New Delhi in the presence of the distinguished audience of more than 600 people, comprising government officials, CXOs, foreign guests, distributors, VARs, SIs and channel partners from across the country.

The winners of the VARIndia Star Nite Awards were felicitated, followed by an awards ceremony and a gala dinner. On this occasion, more than 75 awards were presented to the top performers of the IT industry in various categories.

VARIndia Star Nite Awards - 2010, which played host to the felicitation ceremony of the top performers of the Indian IT industry for the current year, kick-started with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the guests of Honour and other high-profile dignitaries.

The ninth VARIndia Star Nite Awards 2010 was not a mere award-giving ceremony for the IT vendors, but it was a revelation from the different guests.

Shri. Savitur Prasad, Secretary, Department of Information & Technology, Government of NCT of Delhi, spoke about the latest e-governance initiatives taken by the Delhi Government. One of the projects undertaken by the Delhi Government is TETRA, which played an important role in the succesful completion of the Commonwealth Games.

Addressing the audience, Mr. Savitur Prasad said that the IT industry is poised to grow remarkably and that the buyer-seller kind of an equation that this industry shared with the Government should change. It should be seen more as a partner to the Government. He also stressed on the fact the industry can help in terms of 3 innovative features - innovative technology, innovative financing model and innovative e-governance. And that is what the IT sector can do for the citizens at large. Concluding his speech, the IT secretary said that Technology is seen to have played a pivotal role in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games and so the Delhi Government has earmarked a lot of innovative IT projects for the city of Delhi that is going to change it for better.

While giving away the awards to the winning vendors, Dr. Gulshan Rai, Director General, ICERT, Ministry of Information Technology, Govt. Of India whole-heartedly thanked Kalinga Digital Media and the organizers of the event for putting up such a spectacular show. He also appreciated its efforts for bringing together the Government sector and the Industry people on the same platform and discussing issues that would decide the future of the IT industry. He congratulated the winners of the awards in different categories and also commended their efforts.

The highlight of the evening was the coveted VARIndia No. 1 Channel favourite company, which was bagged by HP IndiaCanon joined the likes of IBMEMCHPSamsungOracleLogitechIntel and Microsoft as this year's big winners. For Console Gaming, Microsoft took the top honours as the Best Company of the Year and also took the awards for the Best Desktop O.S.- Window 7, Best Head set and Best Gaming Hardware. On the Business Application Solution, Oracle took the top honours and won the Best Company of the Year award. On the Server Virtualization side, VMWARE Software India took the cake by earning the Best Company of the Year award, while HPwon the Best X86 Server award.

RAILTEL CORPORATION OF INDIA LTD was given the   Best Carrier of the Carriers award.

Intel was the winner in the Processor while Asus won the best Motherboard award. Canon swept the awards in Imaging Solution, Digital Camera and Photo Copier. 

In the Security arena, Bluecoat Systems Inc,shared the spotlight with CHECK POINT taking the Fastest growing Security Company in India award as well as winning the category of Best Best Firewall and Best Data Security

Cyberoam  walked away with top scores for Best UTM (Unified Threat Management).

Norton won the best Antivirus Software, while the top honours for Best Gateway Anti Virus Software went toSYMANTECLogitech made a great showing in various categories, which included Best Key Board (Membrane), Best Webcam , Best Mouse   and Best Speaker  winning the Best Company of the Year award for each category.

Cisco dominated the Networking Solution scene and bagged the Best Company of the Year award. Iomega Corp did the same in the Best Entry Level NAS, winning the Best Company of the Year award.

And, of course, it is no surprise that in ERP Solutions, SAP once again took the top prize as the Best Company of the Year. TVS Electronics had a repeat performance as the Best Company of the Year in Mechanical Keyboard.

While HCL Infosystems was awarded the Best Distributor of the Year, GLOBAL INFONET DISTRIBUTION (P) LTD. was named as the Emerging Distributor of the year.

Besides, the event also witnessed corporate presentations to showcase their capabilities with audio/video presentations.

Last but not the least, the vendors took the opportunity to give exposure to their products by setting up stalls, which were visited by the guests in large numbers. The vendors included HP, Canon, Cyberoam, Epson, AMD, Watchguard, Alvarion, Oracle, Asus, Bestnet, TVS-E, Simmtronics Semiconductors Ltd, and DIGILINK.

The VARIndia STAR Nite event was supported by the leading IT vendors like, Motorola, Oracle, AMD, Presto, Alvarion, Digilink, Asus, D-Link, Epson, nComputing, inTarvo, Watchguard, Bestnet, Cyberoam, Simmtronics, and Canon.
