It can be said with absolute certainty that information technology has played a pivotal role in enabling SMBs to carve a niche for themselves. Indeed, the advent of IT has resulted in the reach of fruits of growth to the SMEs and SMBs. So far as implementation of the latest technology for their business needs is concerned, the Indian SMEs and SMBs are second to none in the world.
Today, ICT has taken some giant steps and this exponential growth has changed the way we live and interact with the world. The ICT industry has shown that India is a land of enormous possibilities. It attracts ICT vendors like moths flocking to the flame. Added to this, the scope is so vast that even a new vendor can survive in the Indian ICT industry. A vendor just needs one customer/partner (VAR) to start the operation. What it takes is to find someone who believes in you and your belief multiplies.
That the US economy affects international businesses in a substantial way is obvious because in most international transactions the US dollar is used. There is a glimmer of hope in the US as the consumer sentiment rose to the highest level in nearly six years in the country. It is only to be hoped that economic and financial prospects in the country stabilize in the near future. Though the Indian Government struggles to arrest rupee's slide in recent days, it is heartening that the global rating agency Fitch has raised India's sovereign credit outlook to stable from negative. So the expectations of India being a growth market are there once again.
When we turn to the IT environment, we find that it is demanding today. IT teams are under pressure to achieve more with less. This more than often requires making changes to applications or writing entirely new programs. But the question that is uppermost in the mind is that who has time for that. However, a powerful and flexible application server platform can come to the rescue of IT teams in meeting changing business needs while streamlining business development at the same time. Turning to the other facet of IT, nothing can be said about the revenue growth in the PC market and its overall performance is still a wild card. Secondly, as the popularity of smartphones or high-end mobile phones increases, the demand for digital cameras takes a backseat. Another interesting and right development unfolding in the industry is that Chief Information Officers (CIOs) are no longer the decision-makers in the software purchase process.
It has been observed that the topline System Integrators are moving in the direction of the business of Cloud. This goes to show that the cloud has become mainstream. Though cloud promises cost reduction, it is incumbent on the vendors to address the security concerns which blunt the multitude of benefits offered by the Cloud.
Last but not the least, let us brace ourselves for the future with an optimistic note and expect better business conditions.
