HCIL establishes new Satellite Communications hub at Manesar
Hughes Communications India, Ltd has inaugurated its third India satellite hub at Manesar, Haryana. This greenfield facility is the third of its kind after existing and operational facilities at Gurgaon and Hyderabad.
The hub will cater to the growing demand for satellite broadband connectivity and high-bandwidth application services for Indian enterprises and SMBs. It will also serve as a disaster-recovery backup site for several Hughes’ Indian customers, besides the existing hubs in Gurgaon and Hyderabad.
“Broadband connectivity has emerged as a key enabler, delivering broadband applications and services. Vast segments remain underserved or unserved in terms of broadband connectivity – a gap that satellite operations can best address,” said Partho Banerjee, Managing Director, Hughes Communications India Ltd, at the inauguration of the Manesar facility.
The new greenfield facility is now ready for commissioning and will be the core operations facility for Hughes in India. It has been set up over 10,000-sq. ft. area, the new state-of-the-art hub, with the provision for three 9/11 M antennas. Regarded as a Tier-IV data center and built to green norms, it has a rack capacity of 3,100U. This facility, along with the ones in Gurgaon and Hyderabad, makes Hughes the only satellite communications service provider in India to offer hub and satellite level redundancy to customers as both its KU hubs will operate on different satellites and in different geographies. It is equipped with the state-of-the-art network operating centre, monitoring tools, fiber-optic termination for backhaul traffic, internet gateway and applications for content delivery and interactive onsite learning.
The Hub at Gurgaon consits of the KU facility and the data center, having a 9m KU antenna and two major networks based on DVB-S2 and DVB-S Hughes HN / HX technology. This data center has a rack capacity of over 2,000U and more than 80,000 sites are operated over in the hub. Hyderabad facility houses the biggest Hughes facility in India with four major 11m and 9m antennas. The facility operates two KU and two XC antennas. There are four major NOCs operating over HN / HX technology and has a 2,000U rack space data center.
