Seagate unveils New HDDs for Storage Professionals
To store ever-growing amount of unstructured data in the cloud , Seagate Technology has unveiled two new enterprise-class hard disk drives (HDD) optimized for emerging cloud infrastructures and large-scale data centers – the Seagate Terascale HDD and the Seagate Enterprise Performance 10K HDD v7 for system builders. The Terascale HDD delivers high-capacity storage in low-power configurations.
Scott Horn, VP Marketing, Seagate, said,With this huge shift of capacity to the cloud, storage providers will need to deploy more storage quickly all while increasing capacity and lowering energy costs. Engineered with this mind, these new drives deliver on all fronts providing high capacity-to-power ratios and ensuring consistent performance at an affordable cost, making them an ideal solution for the cloud.
The Terascale HDD helps to reduce ongoing energy and cooling costs for multi-drive large- scale operations. It also helps to save money and time by reducing drive erasure times from hours to milliseconds providing quick, safe and easy drive disposal or repurposing. It also features a low-cost 6GB/s SATA interface for easy integration with lower-cost SATA infrastructures.
On the other hand, Enterprise Performance 10K HDD v7 delivers high-capacity in a mission- critical drive enabling storage professionals to build optimum data storage solutions with consistently high performance and reliability in a low-power envelope.
Extremely energy-efficient, the Enterprise Performance 10K HDD v7 delivers one of the highest GB/Watt power optimization and cooling costs in a 2.5-inch enterprise 10K HDD available.
