VARIndia Star Nite-2004: A Show of Infotenment
The third edition of VARIndia Star Nite was the beginning of the new vista of modern award shows. It was a treat for every body present in that evening. For the serious people it started with serious talks on three different topics i.e. outsourcing, wireless computing and migration from 32 bit to 64 bit computing. When Mr. Rohit Jain, Engineering Director at Interra IT, talked about the trends of outsourcing, Mr. Avinash Purwar, Business Development Manager, Cisco System India & SAARC briefed about the market potential of wireless computing in India and Mr. Sanjeev Keskar, Country Manager, AMD India and Far East spoke about how 64 bit computing is backward compatible with 32 bit applications. It was a perfect blend of Information and Entertainment in other words VARIndia Star Nite-2004 was a show of Infotenment.
At around 7:30PM the Chief Guest of the evening Mr. S. Regunathan (IAS), Chief Secretary, Government of Delhi lighted the auspicious lamp to mark the beginning of the award ceremony. He expressed his satisfaction over the growth that VARIndia is making over the period of time. He commended the efforts of VARIndia and the entire team for putting up a nice show. Mr. Regunathan also handed over two important awards: one to HP India Pvt. Ltd. as Channel Favourite Company and Samsung as the No.1 Distribution Company.
It was a well synchronized and well managed show as with the leaving of the Chief Guest, a scintillating dance performance was taken place in order to make the mood of the gathering upbeat. Then the President of VARIndia Mr. Deepak Sahu gave his speech, where in he announced VARIndia’s new initiative that is’‘VAR Club’. It would be a non- profit body under the name of VAR Foundation to represent VARs in various levels of discussions, grievances and policy formulations in association with various industry bodies and IT Corporates. Mr. Sanjay Mohapatra, Editor, VARIndia, in his speech said about how difficult was it to find out the winners and what was the methodology of reaching at the finalists. Mr. Sanjeev Mahapatra, Publisher, VARIndia, spoke about how India has become a strategic place for most of the US-based companies to invest.
With the conclusive speech of Mr. Sanjeev started the real award giving ceremony. A roar of applause had just compelled the front rowers to crane their necks behind and it was met with jam pack Napoleon Hall of Hotel Le-Meridien. It had triggered the feeling that how successful VARIndia has been over the last five years in the IT industry.
The Gala Occasion for the Indian IT Industry in 2004 organized by VARIndia (A frontline IT Magazine) to felicitate the various successful players/brands/products of IT industry, had witnessed a gathering of more than 700 visitors from the entire IT fraternity across the country. Awards were given away to more than 52 products, vendors and resellers in Hardware, Software, and Solution Providers categories.
This gathering comprised representatives from corporates like HP, Samsung, Cisco, Microsoft, TVS-E, Kobian, Ingram Micro, Lexmark, Interra IT, AMD, Chemoplast, BPE, etc. and CXO from various IT Corporates, FICCI, ESC, etc. It also had major resellers from different locations of the country.
Besides the Chief Guest Sri. S. Regunathan Chief Secretary of Delhi, the other dignitaries who graced the occasion included Mr. V Krishnan, GM-Consumer Sales, Imaging & Printing Group, HP India Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Sanjeev Keskar, Country Manager, AMD Far East Ltd. (India), Mr. Avinash Purwar, Business Development Manager, Cisco Systems, India & SAARC, Mr. Asoke K. Laha, President & Managing Director, Interra IT India and Chairman, Working Committee-Software, ESC, Mr. Sunil Sharma, MD, Kobian India (Pvt.) Ltd., Mr. P G Kamath, General Manager, Lexmark International India (P) Ltd., Mr. M. Y. Reddy, Secretary-Infrastructure, FICCI, Mr. C. M Gaonkar, Director, Finance D-Link India Ltd., Mr. Srinivas Rao, Director Sales-SMB, SAP India Pvt. Ltd., Mr. S.K Nayak, AGM-IT, Hero Honda Ltd., Mr. Jeffery Huang, Asustech Ltd. who is from Taiwan. Mr. Pankaj Sharma, Country General Manager, APC India (P) Ltd. and etc.
Behind the success of this VARIndia Star Nite 2004, there was a long term effort, at the same time a very simple scrutinizing process in place. The magazine had implemented a series of exercises to get feedbacks about the real performance of the products and the vendors. The activities that were taken up including sending questionnaire along with daily news letter, one-to-one meeting with channel partners and resellers in different geographies of the country, direct feedback from the market by filling up questionnaire, product testing at VARIndia test lab and sample telecon survey.
There was a set of parameters, on basis of which the finalists were picked from the nominees. These parameters include product quality, market share, after sales services support, market awareness programs, channel development programs, channel relationship, training programs, building consumer awareness, channel promotions, lifetime value program and market development activities.
