Enviro Infra Engineers hit by ₹11.15 cr cyber fraud; ₹2.5 cr recovered, directors forgo salary

A key player in India’s water infrastructure sector, Enviro Infra Engineers has tightened internal controls, enhanced financial security protocols, and launched employee awareness programs to prevent future cyber fraud following a recent major breach

Cybersecurity concerns have intensified after Enviro Infra Engineers, a listed small-cap company specializing in water infrastructure and environmental projects, reported a major financial fraud involving unauthorized fund transfers.

According to a company disclosure, over ₹11.15 crore was illicitly withdrawn from the company’s bank account through impersonation of a company director. The fraudulent transaction came to light on July 2, 2025, prompting an immediate internal review and notification to cybercrime authorities.

So far, approximately ₹2.5 crore has been recovered, reducing the net financial exposure to around ₹8.64 crore. Investigations are ongoing, and the company is cooperating closely with law enforcement to trace the remaining funds.

Enviro Infra Engineers, known for its work in wastewater management, sewage treatment, and drinking water projects across India, stated that it has implemented stricter internal controls and reinforced security protocols for financial operations in response to the breach. Awareness programs have also been launched internally to educate employees about digital fraud risks.

Strong growth despite cyber attack

In an unusual move, the company's executive directors have voluntarily suspended their salaries until the full amount lost is recovered, aiming to minimize the financial impact on the organization.

Despite the incident, Enviro Infra Engineers has shown strong financial performance. In Q4 of FY25, the firm posted a 31% year-on-year increase in revenue, along with a 30% jump in profit after tax. It also secured new engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and operations & maintenance (O&M) contracts exceeding ₹200 crore during the fiscal year.

Looking ahead, the company announced plans to diversify into clean energy. A new subsidiary focused on solar, hydropower, green hydrogen, and round-the-clock renewable energy solutions is currently in development.

The incident underscores rising cyber threats in corporate India as businesses digitize operations.
