Backed by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the pilot project will leverage AI to analyze traffic, environmental, and driver data to identify accident causes and predict high-risk zones in real time
In a significant step toward enhancing road safety through technology, ITI Limited is set to roll out India’s first artificial intelligence-powered road safety pilot in Uttar Pradesh. The initiative, undertaken in collaboration with technology partner mLogica, aims to curb road accidents and streamline traffic enforcement using advanced data analytics.
Backed by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the pilot project will employ AI to analyze diverse datasets including traffic patterns, environmental factors, driver behaviour, and road infrastructure. The focus is on uncovering the underlying causes of road accidents and creating a predictive system that can flag high-risk zones in real time.
The six-week prototype phase will integrate accident records, weather reports, vehicle telemetry, and driver histories to build AI models. These models will identify accident-prone locations, assess contributing factors, and provide live policy dashboards for authorities. This will enable more responsive and data-backed decision-making for road safety interventions.
AI model to transform transport
Following successful implementation of the pilot, the system is expected to expand into key transport functions such as contactless licensing and permits, electronic challan processing, revenue tracking, and digital vehicle and driver registries.
Rajesh Rai, Chairman and Managing Director of ITI Limited, expressed confidence in the project’s potential. “We are proud to be leading this transformative initiative. Uttar Pradesh’s adoption of our AI-driven model demonstrates growing trust in our ability to deliver end-to-end ICT solutions for public safety and governance,” he said.
Rai also emphasized the broader vision behind the project. “Our aim is not just to monitor, but to prevent. By leveraging real-time analytics, we can significantly reduce road fatalities and improve enforcement efficiency across the state. We hope this model sets a national benchmark for intelligent traffic management.”
Expanding AI footprint in governance
ITI Limited has built a strong portfolio in e-governance across India. In addition to this AI road safety project, the company is currently implementing the Aaple Sarkar Seva Kendra initiative in Maharashtra and has secured contracts worth ₹88 crore for surveillance and land management systems in Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
The pilot’s success in Uttar Pradesh could pave the way for similar initiatives nationwide, positioning AI as a central tool in improving road safety and transportation governance.
