MiPhi’s enterprise SSDs are engineered for ultra-fast performance, durability, and enterprise-grade security, built to meet the demanding needs of data centres, HPC, cloud infrastructure, and AI-driven workloads like edge computing and data localisation
In a groundbreaking development for India’s semiconductor and storage sector, MiPhi Semiconductors, a joint venture between Micromax Informatics and Taiwan-based Phison Technology, has announced that it is now the first Indian brand to design and manufacture enterprise-grade Solid State Drives (SSDs) entirely within the country.
This achievement marks a significant step in India's journey toward technological self-reliance, aligning with national programmes like Make in India and Digital India. By bringing end-to-end SSD development and manufacturing to Indian soil, MiPhi is positioning itself at the forefront of the country’s ambitions to build a robust indigenous semiconductor ecosystem.
The enterprise SSDs from MiPhi are engineered to meet the stringent demands of data centres, high-performance computing (HPC), cloud infrastructure, and mission-critical enterprise applications. Designed for ultra-fast speeds, superior durability, and enterprise-grade data security, these drives are built to address the rapidly growing storage requirements of AI, edge computing, and data localisation.
Driving India’s digital self-reliance
“MiPhi’s SSDs represent more than just cutting-edge technology—they reflect the vision of a self-reliant India,” said Rahul Sharma, Co-founder of MiPhi Semiconductors. “This launch showcases what Indian engineering and global collaboration can achieve when driven by purpose and precision.”
Prasad Balakrishnan, CEO of MiPhi Semiconductors, highlighted the strategic importance of this initiative in the context of the global data explosion. “With the data economy expected to generate over 180 zettabytes by 2025, high-performance storage infrastructure is critical,” he said. “Our India-designed and -manufactured SSDs directly contribute to strengthening the country’s digital backbone.”
Industry projections underscore the relevance of MiPhi’s timing. The global enterprise SSD market is expected to grow from USD 27 billion in 2024 to over USD 50 billion by 2028, while India’s data centre capacity is projected to surpass 1.3 GW by 2026, supported by more than USD 10 billion in investments.
Setting benchmarks in indigenous storage
MiPhi’s SSDs are built to global standards, offering reliable, scalable performance suited for evolving enterprise needs. This milestone not only positions MiPhi as a leader in indigenous enterprise storage but also paves the way for broader innovations across edge computing, AI infrastructure, and next-gen digital solutions.
As India intensifies its focus on reducing dependence on imports in strategic tech sectors, MiPhi’s achievement stands as a strong testament to the potential of homegrown innovation in powering global-scale solutions.
