Early signs suggest the JMM’s X account was compromised by crypto scammers, as it displayed a cryptocurrency wallet address and a bizarre chipmunk image, hinting at a broader trend of digital currency-related social media hacks
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has raised alarm over a cyberattack on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of his party, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). Soren alleged that the handle @JMMJharkhand had been compromised by “anti-social elements,” urging the state police to investigate and take swift action.
In a post on the social media platform, Soren confirmed the breach and called for urgent intervention. “The official X handle of JMM has been hacked by anti-social elements. Jharkhand Police must take cognisance, investigate the matter, and act immediately,” he wrote.
Although an official investigation is yet to be launched, early signs point towards a cyber intrusion by crypto scammers. The compromised account displayed what appears to be a cryptocurrency wallet address along with a bizarre image of a chipmunk—indicating that the attack may be linked to an ongoing trend of social media hacks tied to digital currency scams.
At the time of the incident, Soren was in Delhi attending to his father and JMM founder, Shibu Soren, who is currently undergoing medical treatment.
JMM eyes Bihar poll battle
Meanwhile, the JMM is also making headlines for its expected participation in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections as part of the opposition INDIA bloc. The party, which is a key ally in Jharkhand’s ruling coalition with the Congress and RJD, is preparing to contest between 12 and 15 seats in Bihar, according to a senior party functionary. The final seat-sharing arrangement will be determined after further discussions with alliance partners.
K Raju, Jharkhand Congress in-charge, confirmed ongoing efforts to secure seats for JMM in Bihar. “As an alliance partner, it is our responsibility to support JMM’s presence in the Bihar assembly elections. We have initiated necessary steps toward that,” Raju stated during a media briefing in Giridih.
Elections for Bihar’s 243-member legislative assembly are likely to be held in October or November this year.
