MoU signed to boost digital transformation in India’s maritime sector

The National e-Governance Division (NeGD) and the Indian Ports Association (IPA) have entered into a significant partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at driving digital transformation in India's maritime sector. The MoU was formalized by Nand Kumarum, IAS, President and CEO of NeGD, and Vikas Narwal, IAS, Managing Director of IPA, in the presence of Dr. Arvind Bhisikar, Executive Director (IT) of IPA, and Rajnish Kumar, Chief Operating Officer of NeGD, along with their respective teams.

The strategic collaboration will combine NeGD’s technological expertise with IPA’s deep understanding of the maritime, ports, shipping, and logistics industries. The partnership seeks to enhance operational efficiency, streamline logistics systems, and modernize the port ecosystem through the integration of advanced software, system development, and emerging technologies. The focus will also be on building capacity and encouraging the adoption of cutting-edge solutions in the sector.

This initiative is designed to address key challenges in the maritime industry, such as fragmented logistics systems, outdated operational practices, and insufficient digital infrastructure. By promoting seamless integration and collaboration among stakeholders, the partnership aims to create a smarter, more efficient, and technology-driven ecosystem for India’s ports.

The long-term vision of the collaboration is to connect ports across India, enabling them to leverage real-time data and analytics for optimizing operations, improving turnaround times, and enhancing supply chain efficiencies. This move aligns with India’s broader goal of becoming a global leader in the digital transformation of port operations.

With this MoU, both NeGD and IPA aim to revolutionize the Indian maritime sector, strengthening the nation’s position in the global logistics and shipping industries while advancing the vision of a digitally interconnected port ecosystem.
