The collaboration includes a $30 million investment and an annual production capacity of 1.2 million units.
NxtCell India has partnered with Padget Electronics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dixon Technologies, to produce made-in-India smartphones under the Alcatel brand. This strategic collaboration marks Alcatel's relaunch in the Indian market and reinforces the government’s Make in India initiative aimed at strengthening domestic mobile phone production.
The partnership entails a planned investment of $30 million, with a projected annual manufacturing capacity of 1.2 million units. This move is expected to not only accelerate smartphone manufacturing in India but also position Alcatel competitively among Indian smartphone brands in a rapidly growing and highly competitive market.
Atul Vivek, Chief Business Officer of NxtCell India, confirmed that the first batch of locally assembled Alcatel smartphones is expected to be available in the Indian market within the next 8 to 10 weeks. These devices will be manufactured at Padget Electronics’ state-of-the-art facility, which has already proven its efficiency in large-scale electronics partnerships and mobile production.
The collaboration is part of a larger effort by Dixon Technologies—one of India’s leading electronics manufacturing companies—to scale up mobile manufacturing in India and attract global and domestic brands seeking local production solutions. Through Dixon NxtCell partnership, both companies aim to leverage their strengths in distribution, technology, and manufacturing excellence to offer quality, affordable smartphones to Indian consumers.
This venture is not only expected to create job opportunities but also contribute significantly to the Indian smartphone manufacturing ecosystem. By enhancing local value addition and reducing reliance on imports, the initiative aligns with India’s broader vision of becoming a global hub for electronics manufacturing.
