Telecom major Airtel faced widespread network disruptions in Tamil Nadu and parts of South India, leaving users unable to make calls. Social media platforms like X and others were abuzz with complaints from users across Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad and Kerala, who were reporting that they were unable to make calls on Airtel networks and were facing call drops. However, mobile data services on the telecom network were functioning.
Frustrated users also shared issues such as lack of network coverage, “emergency calls only” status, and total service failure. Some also mentioned that the outage was impacting online payments and UPI transactions.
According to a website that tracks downtime, the outage was initially reported after 7:00 PM IST on May 13 and lasted until 11:35 PM IST. While the full list of affected areas has yet to be confirmed, users from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and New Delhi were among those reporting network connectivity problems.
Roughly 66 percent of Airtel users reported no signal, while 21 percent experienced issues with mobile phone services, and 13 percent faced disruptions with mobile internet connectivity.
During the outage, many users reportedly couldn’t make phone calls due to a lack of network signal.
