Anthropic, the artificial intelligence startup behind the Claude chatbot, is in advanced discussions with Google to secure additional cloud computing resources valued in the high tens of billions of dollars, according to a report from Bloomberg News citing people familiar with the matter.
The proposed agreement, which has not yet been finalized, would see Alphabet-owned Google provide long-term cloud infrastructure and computing services to Anthropic as the company expands its AI training and deployment capacity.
Anthropic, which already counts both Google and Amazon.com among its largest investors, is emerging as one of the most heavily funded players in the generative AI race. The company’s Claude family of models competes directly with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s own Gemini.
The talks come as Anthropic experiences rapid revenue growth driven by strong enterprise adoption of its AI products. As previously reported by Reuters, the company is on track to reach an annual revenue run rate of around $9 billion by the end of 2025, more than doubling — and potentially tripling — its current pace.
A deal of this scale would reinforce Google’s role as a key infrastructure provider for Anthropic, deepening a relationship that has become increasingly strategic as demand for computing power and data center capacity surges across the AI industry.
If finalized, the agreement would mark one of the largest cloud partnerships to date in the rapidly consolidating generative AI sector, underscoring the vast capital requirements now defining the competition among major AI developers.
