Passengers will soon be able to book Metro tickets, recharge smart cards, and plan end-to-end trips through a single app or Google Maps, as part of BMRCL’s initiative to enhance urban mobility and streamline travel across Bengaluru.
In a major step toward smart urban mobility and digital transformation, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced that Bengaluru Metro will officially join the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform starting May 2025. This integration aims to revolutionize the city's public transport experience by offering seamless end-to-end travel bookings through a single digital platform, including popular apps like Rapido, Namma Yatri, and RedBus.
Once live, commuters in Bengaluru will be able to book a complete journey — including first-mile and last-mile connectivity via autos, cabs, and buses, combined with middle-mile Metro travel — all within one unified app interface. The integration will also enable Metro ticket booking, smart card recharges, and trip planning via platforms such as Google Maps, which now includes real-time Metro train schedules, enhancing commuter convenience.
This ONDC-enabled initiative aligns with the Government of India’s vision for digital inclusion and open access commerce, ensuring that urban transportation in Bengaluru becomes more efficient, affordable, and digitally connected. It also promotes the use of multi-modal transport solutions, reducing travel friction, saving time, and easing traffic congestion.
A senior BMRCL official confirmed that the ONDC Metro launch is subject to final integrations with the Automated Fare Collection (AFC) system but is expected to go live as scheduled in May. Once implemented, this could serve as a model for other cities looking to integrate public transportation systems with digital commerce networks.

"SequelString is working on facilitating QR ticket integration on the ONDC platform for BMRCL on a proof-of-concept basis. Multiple third-party apps will be able to build an entire stack for first and last mile connectivity using BMRCL’s QR ticketing. ONDC integration will be completed first, Bharat Bill Pay System (BBPS) integration will follow later," the official added.
The move also highlights the role of technology in smart city planning, and the potential of ONDC to transform mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) in India by offering commuters more flexibility, transparency, and real-time travel data.
