BSNL unveils Re 1 ‘Freedom Offer’ with unlimited calls and 4G data for new users

BSNL’s new Re 1 Freedom Offer is a strategic push to attract subscribers amid its 4G rollout, positioning it against private players like Jio, Airtel, and Vi, whose similar plans cost ₹349 to ₹399

State-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has rolled out an attractive promotional plan priced at just Re 1, offering unlimited voice calls, daily 4G data, and other benefits under its limited-period ‘Freedom Offer.’ The plan is valid until August 31, 2025, and is available exclusively to new customers.

The Freedom Offer provides unlimited local and national calls, 100 SMS per day, and 2GB of daily 4G data, bundled with a new BSNL SIM card. Once the daily data limit is exhausted, speeds will be reduced to 40 kbps as per BSNL’s fair usage policy (FUP). Customers can avail the offer by visiting nearby BSNL retailers or Common Services Centres (CSCs). However, it remains uncertain whether this offer will be extended to those opting for BSNL’s doorstep SIM delivery service.

Highlighting the initiative, BSNL CMD A Robert J. Ravi said, “With BSNL’s 4G network built under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ mission, we are proud to offer an indigenous telecom solution. The Freedom Plan allows every Indian to experience this network for 30 days, free of cost.” He further noted that BSNL is deploying 100,000 indigenously developed 4G towers nationwide, with a strong focus on enhancing connectivity in rural areas.

The new offer is a strategic move by BSNL to attract subscribers as it scales up its 4G infrastructure to compete with private players. Leading telecom operators like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea currently offer comparable benefits at significantly higher prices, ranging between ₹349 and ₹399.

With the Freedom Offer, BSNL aims to showcase the performance of its newly developed 4G network and revive its position in India’s competitive telecom market by appealing to cost-conscious and rural users.
