Dell to buy data-protection firm Credant

Protection of data is the utmost requirement for any firm. Keeping this into consideration, the tech giant Dell is reportedly geared-up to make an acquisition of a security vendor. According to latest information, Dell has made a deal to acquire data-protection vendor Credant Technologies.

Founded in 2001, Credant is a Texas based company that sells software and services to encrypt data and keep it secure while transferring across PCs, mobile devices, USB drives, cloud services and other locations. Credent offers a unified console for data protection policies across all these platforms.

It is worth noticing here; Dell already has a joint development and OEM (original equipment manufacturer) agreement with Credant and uses the company's technology in its Data Protection/Encryption product.

Besides Dell, Credant is also providing full proof security to more than two million endpoints with customers across a variety of industries including retail, finance, healthcare etc.

Post acquisition, Dell is planning to add the company's technology to its enterprise IT security offerings.

According to a spokesperson from Dell, “The company will use Credant software to enhance the security capabilities of its Latitude, OptiPlex and Precision computers.”

The monetary details have not been disclosed by any of the firm.
