DoT to issue Rs.100-Crore Notice to Vodafone

It seems DoT will soon get a huge amount of money from some of the leading telecoms in India. As per a latest update, Dot is all set to issue a Rs. 100 crore notice to Vodafone for allowing its subscribers a local dialling facility. By using local dialling facility, subscribers didn’t pay roaming charges in two service areas during 2003 and 2005.

A spokesperson of DoT said, "It was emphasized that such type of service violates the national routing and numbering plan, and in an unauthorized fashion, bypasses the national long distance traffic. In spite of the DoT instructions on June 20, 2003, the company hadn't stopped the unauthorized service it was providing in the name of direct connect or optimal routing and continued to provide it till 2005. It was brought to the notice of DoT through a reference from the PMO in 2005.

Here, it is worth noticing that, recently, DoT has also charged a demand notice of Rs.650 crore on Bharti Airtel.
