Fireflies.ai now valued at $1B, integrates Perplexity for real-time meeting search

AI-powered productivity platform Fireflies.ai has officially joined the unicorn club, reaching a valuation of over $1 billion following its first-ever tender offer. This strategic move marks a milestone for the startup, offering liquidity to long-serving team members while reaffirming its commitment to sustainable growth and employee ownership.

Fireflies has distinguished itself in the competitive AI productivity space by achieving profitability since 2023—without raising any primary capital since 2021. CEO and co-founder Krish Ramineni emphasized that this tender offer was designed to reward early employees who played a crucial role in building the company from the ground up. “We’ve taken a disciplined, product-led approach to building Fireflies. Achieving this valuation while remaining profitable is a validation of that strategy,” he stated.

Coinciding with this financial milestone, Fireflies has launched a groundbreaking feature—“Talk to Fireflies”—through a strategic integration with AI search engine Perplexity. This new capability allows users to interact with Fireflies via voice or text during virtual meetings and perform real-time web searches without leaving the conversation.

Real-time AI access for all

Available across Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams, users can simply say “Hey Fireflies” or type “/ff” to ask questions like “What are the top trends in online retail?” or “What decisions have been made so far in this meeting?” The feature works in over 60 languages and is designed to provide instant, reliable information sourced directly from the web.

“Talk to Fireflies bridges the gap between conversation and contextual knowledge,” said Dmitry Shevelenko, Chief Business Officer at Perplexity. “Meetings are where important decisions happen, but they often lack access to real-time information. Our integration solves that challenge.”

The innovation is also notable for its accessibility. Unlike many premium features typically locked behind paywalls, “Talk to Fireflies” is available to all users, including those on Fireflies' free plan. This democratization of advanced AI capabilities reflects the company’s mission to make smart productivity tools available to a broad range of users.

Cross-platform perks for users

Fireflies is offering additional incentives through its partnership with Perplexity. Customers on Fireflies’ Pro and Business plans will receive a free one-year subscription to Perplexity Pro, while Enterprise customers will gain three months of Perplexity Enterprise Pro access. Likewise, Perplexity Pro and Enterprise Pro users can access Fireflies' premium services for free during a similar promotional period.

With more than 20 million users across 500,000 organizations globally, Fireflies has seen user growth surge eightfold over the past 18 months. Its AI-powered tools have been widely adopted to automate meeting notes, streamline team workflows, and enhance institutional memory.

Future-ready AI capabilities ahead

Looking ahead, Fireflies plans to introduce even more sophisticated AI functionalities. These include autonomous voice agents that can attend meetings on behalf of users and enhanced search features capable of scanning a user's entire meeting history.
