Breaking News
Hyundai Motor Company and TVS Motor Company have formalised a strategic partnership to jointly develop and commercialise electric three-wheelers (E3Ws) tailored for India’s growing last-mile mobility needs. The collaboration follows the unveiling of a concept model at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 and marks a significant step toward sustainable urban transportation solutions.
Under the Joint Development Agreement (JDA), Hyundai will lead the design and co-development of the vehicle, leveraging its global research and development capabilities and human-centric design approach. TVS Motor, on the other hand, will contribute its expertise in electric three-wheeler platforms and deep understanding of local market requirements. The company will also oversee manufacturing and sales operations in India, with plans to support both domestic demand and future exports.
The partnership aims to address India’s unique mobility challenges by delivering an electric vehicle designed specifically for local road conditions, urban infrastructure, and diverse use cases ranging from passenger transport to goods delivery.
Focus on Localization and Scalable Mobility
A key aspect of the collaboration is the emphasis on local manufacturing. Both companies plan to source and produce major components within India, strengthening the domestic automotive supply chain while reducing costs and improving after-sales support. This approach is also expected to generate employment opportunities and enhance accessibility for end users.
The proposed electric three-wheeler will incorporate features suited to Indian conditions, including adaptive ground clearance for uneven roads, improved thermal management for hot climates, and flexible interior configurations. Enhanced safety and ergonomic design are also expected to play a central role in the vehicle’s development.
The project will now move from concept to production, with the vehicle undergoing testing, localisation, and regulatory certification before commercial launch. Dedicated teams from both companies have been set up to accelerate development timelines and ensure compliance with Indian standards.
As India continues to push for cleaner and more efficient mobility solutions, the collaboration between Hyundai and TVS Motor highlights the growing importance of electric vehicles in transforming last-mile transportation. By combining global engineering expertise with local market knowledge, the partnership aims to deliver scalable, affordable, and sustainable mobility solutions for the future.
