It is perhaps the only month of the year when most of the senior executives of the IT industry, especially in the hardware and networking space, are seen in the South Asian countries to visit Computex – Taipei or CommunicAsia – Singapore.
It is really an occasion to refresh oneself in the overseas location as well as taking technology doses from the innovators. I make it a point to visit these places during this month. In particular, Especially Computex – Taipei is one of the largest melting points for all the components that go into the PC. Vendors and innovators from all over the world demonstrate their advanced and futuristic products in this expo. For example, this time two things attracted me the most–– one, the small form-factor PCs (Asus Eee PC and wind PC from MSI) and, secondly, the UPS and inverters charged by solar energy from PCM and Ablerex. These companies might not be so popular with the IT fraternity, but they have a certain product line-up, which is of real need to India. Besides, there was a lot of emphasis on making IT products less power consuming.

So, a green pavilion was one of the attractions in the venue, though not many of the visitors were found around that place. On the other side, CommunicAsia – Singapore showcased the blend of technology, communication and mobile applications – a real convergence of technologies for customers. This time of course, there was a lot of stress on IP TV and wireless communications. Vendors showcased their capabilities in terms of IP and mobile entertainment along with WiMax. Those people who visited CommunicAsia could get the first-hand experience of the real application of voice-over-IP and integrated technologies from worldwide vendors like DMX Technologies, DUO Software, NAVTEQ, Scopus, etc. Similarly, in the WiMax space, companies like Altai, SOMA Networks, etc. demonstrated the applications. There were a lot of application demos on 3G and 4G technologies as well.

Vendors who are active in India including Andrew Wireless Solutions, Ericsson, Procurve Networking, ADC Krone, RAD Data Comm, Huawei Technologies, UTStarcom and ZTE also displayed their capabilities.
