The partnership aims to build a comprehensive AI infrastructure by 2030 for Japan, supporting innovations in healthcare, manufacturing, environment, computing, and customer service, with potential to expand globally
In a significant move to boost artificial intelligence innovation, U.S. tech giant Nvidia and Japanese telecommunications and computer company Fujitsu have announced a strategic partnership. The collaboration aims to develop advanced AI infrastructure to support smart robotics and various technological advancements using Nvidia’s powerful graphics processing units (GPUs).
Building Japan’s AI future
Speaking at a Tokyo event, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang emphasized the importance of AI in driving a new industrial revolution. “The AI industrial revolution has already begun. Building the infrastructure to power it is essential in Japan and around the world,” Huang said, expressing confidence that Japan could become a global leader in AI and robotics. Fujitsu CEO Takahito Tokita echoed this sentiment, highlighting the partnership’s goal to create human-centered AI solutions that address Japan’s societal challenges, including labor shortages.
The partnership will focus on creating a comprehensive AI infrastructure by 2030, initially designed for the Japanese market but with potential global applications. This infrastructure will underpin innovations in sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, environmental solutions, next-generation computing, and customer service.
Collaborative innovation and future prospects
While specific projects and investment amounts were not disclosed, the companies noted potential collaborations with Japanese robot maker Yaskawa Electric Corp. to integrate AI into robotics. Both firms have previously worked together on initiatives like digital twins and robotic automation to enhance manufacturing efficiency.
Tokita described their approach as “humancentric,” aiming to leverage AI technologies not just for economic growth but also to solve critical social issues. As AI technology continues to evolve, Nvidia and Fujitsu plan to remain at the forefront of this transformation, fostering innovation that benefits Japan and beyond.
