Patni Computer Systems has announced its empanelment as one of the distinguished IT implementation partners for the prestigious Centre funded Restructured-Accelerated Development and Reforms Programme (R-APDRP). This empanelment authorizes Patni to be one of the shortlisted companies to bid for the tenders to modernize and implement IT-related schemes across state electronic boards (SEBs) of the country.

With the total programme size of Rs 50,000 crore, Restructured APDRP-II (R-APRDP) is Government of India's initiative to reform Distribution Sector as part of the Eleventh Five- Year Plan. The programme is proposed to cover urban areas – towns and cities with a population of more than 30,000. The power reform initiative is spread over two phases. The Phase 1 covers IT applications in the distribution sector and Phase 2 plans to strengthen system improvement.

Commenting on the development, Deepak Khosla, President – SAARC Region, Patni, said, "We are excited at the opportunity of being an empanelled partner for the Indian government's prestigious power distribution automation initiative. We look forward to leveraging our privileged experience of working with reputed US-based power distribution companies (DISCOMS) to this project.” He also added, "This empanelment is a validation of our increasing focus on domestic market. We expect the domestic market to contribute 6% of Patni's to overall revenues in the next three years with a focus on sectors such as e-governance, utilities, telecom, BFS and insurance."
