Ram Sevak Sharma, a Jharkhand cadre IAS officer, has been appointed by the government as the new Secretary of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DEITY). Sharma has succeeded J. Satyanarayana who retired on April 30 for the new role.
Prior to this, Sharma served as Director General and Mission Director of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) from August 2009 till March 2013. He played an instrumental role in developing the Aadhaar card concept with former UIDAI Chairman Nandan Nilekani.
Sharma has also served in various positions in the Jharkhand Government as Principal Secretary of the Science and Technology Department and also held positions as additional charge of the Principal Secretary, Drinking Water and Sanitation Department.
His name was also nominated for the Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration.
