Rubrik Introduces Cyber Resilience Solution for Microsoft Azure Blob Storage

Rubrik has announced a new cyber resilience solution for Microsoft Azure Blob Storage. As organizations increasingly rely on cloud infrastructure, security gaps and vulnerabilities in sensitive data have become significant concerns. Rubrik’s latest solution is designed to bring enhanced cyber posture and recovery capabilities to Azure Blob Storage customers, improving visibility and resilience for their cloud data.

Microsoft Azure Blob Storage is used extensively across industries to store unstructured data such as business information, compliance records, and data for AI training models. It is a key component in managing cloud-native workloads, data lakes, high-performance computing, and machine learning. However, with its widespread adoption, businesses are facing rising risks associated with data security, particularly as they transition more sensitive data to the cloud.

Rubrik's collaboration with Microsoft addresses these concerns by enabling organizations to autonomously discover, classify, and contextualize their data within Azure Blob Storage without ever leaving their environment. The new solution provides a comprehensive layer of cyber resilience, giving customers the ability to assess the security posture of sensitive data, monitor for potentially risky user activity, and receive early warning of emerging threats. This proactive security approach helps ensure business agility while safeguarding critical cloud data.

Abhilash Purushothaman, Vice President and General Manager of Rubrik (Asia), explained, "Our enhanced partnership with Microsoft is a significant step forward in delivering cyber resilience for enterprises rapidly adopting Azure. This solution will empower organizations, particularly in sectors such as financial services, healthcare, and the public sector, to maintain control over their data without compromising on security."

A recent report by Rubrik Zero Labs found that 70% of data observed in cloud environments is object storage, which often has lower security coverage compared to on-premises and SaaS data. Of this, nearly 90% is in text or semi-structured file formats, which are often less protected by traditional security technologies. Anneka Gupta, Rubrik’s Chief Product Officer, emphasized the gap in cloud data security, noting, "That’s a double whammy — until now."

The solution also helps organizations manage their data costs by identifying and eliminating redundant data within Azure Blob Storage. Additionally, it offers the ability to store backup data in the Azure Blob Storage Cool and Cold tiers, optimizing storage expenses while ensuring data protection. Rubrik’s service also supports rapid recovery of data with various recovery options, including object-level and whole-container restoration.

Aung Oo, General Manager of Microsoft Azure Storage, highlighted the growing importance of securing cloud data, particularly with the rise of generative AI and large language models. He said, "The explosion of data produced by AI models requires a robust solution to protect that critical information. Rubrik’s solution is specifically designed to ensure the security of this data in cloud repositories like Azure Blob Storage."

This collaboration between Rubrik and Microsoft is designed to help organizations secure their Azure Blob Storage environments, streamline their data management workflows, and ensure continuous business operations in an increasingly complex cyber threat landscape.
