Samsung India Electronics will be the sponsor of the Indian Contingent to the 16th Asian Games being held at Guangzhou, China between 12th & 27th November, 2010. It will also provide scholarships to ten top-ranking players across individual sporting disciplines to support their training expenses, akin to the "Olympic Ratna Programme".
Suresh Kalmadi, President of the Indian Olympic Association, and J. S. Shin, President & CEO, Samsung South West Asia, signed an MoU in the presence of Raja Randhir Singh, Secretary General, IOA and Member, International Olympic Committee, along with senior functionaries from IOA and Samsung.
Speaking on the occasion, J. S. Shin stated, "The success that we received with our "Olympic Ratna Programme" in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, has encouraged us to extend the Scholarship Programme for the Asian Games as well. And this year, we have increased the number of individual players getting support to 10 nos. for the period leading up to the Asian Games."
Suresh Kalmadi, President of the Indian Olympic Association, lauded Samsung's continued support and commitment to the Asian Games and Olympic programmes and hoped that the "Samsung Scholarship" for individual players and the Company's support to the Indian Olympic Association for the entire team would yield strong and positive results in the form of a richer medal tally for the country.
