Artificial intelligence startup Sarvam has raised $74 million from Nvidia, Activate, Glade Brook Capital and Gaja Capital, according to filings with the Registrar of Companies (RoC). The filings, accessed through The Kredible, show that Sarvam allotted fresh shares to the four investors, completing its $300 million funding round at a valuation of $1.5 billion.
The latest investment comes about two months after Sarvam announced the first close of $234 million led by HCLTech and Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from existing investors Lightspeed, Peak XV Partners and Khosla Ventures.
A news source in March reported that Nvidia was in discussions to invest in Sarvam as part of a $200–250 million round at a $1.5 billion valuation. The round was later expanded to $300 million, with HCLTech leading the first close announced in June. The new RoC filings confirm the remaining $74 million and add Nvidia, Activate, Glade Brook Capital and Gaja Capital to Sarvam’s investor base.
One of the new investors, Activate, is an AI-focused venture firm co-founded by Aakrit Vaish and Pratyush Choudhury. In a social media post, Vaish said, "This is the single largest capital commitment we've ever made to a company, bringing together a number of our strategic LPs and family offices in support of Sovereign AI in India."
"Together, Sarvam & Activate will continue to pursue the idea of an India that leads in AI, not just simply participates in it. This partnership reflects the kind of ecosystem we want to help build, one where founders, researchers, enterprises, policymakers, and long-term capital come together to create the country's AI future," he added.
The fresh capital comes as Sarvam accelerates its efforts to build sovereign AI models and enterprise AI products. The startup has been selected under the IndiaAI Mission to develop India’s sovereign foundation model and has received access to 4,096 Nvidia H100 GPUs along with government-backed compute subsidies.
Another news source reported following the first close in June, co-founder Pratyush Kumar said HCLTech’s investment signaled a broader shift in India’s AI ecosystem.
"This is the first time India has demonstrated that it has the capital structure to build sovereign AI," Kumar had said.
Co-founder Vivek Raghavan said the funding would help the company scale its ambitions and attract world-class AI talent.
Founded in 2023 by former AI4Bharat researchers Vivek Raghavan and Pratyush Kumar, Sarvam has quickly emerged as one of India’s leading AI startups. Earlier this year, the company introduced its 30-billion and 105-billion parameter foundation models before being selected under the IndiaAI Mission to build India’s sovereign large language model.
