'Siri, call 911!': man saved after yelling to his lost phone for help
The 18-year-old could not find the mobile device and he was saved from drowning when he yelled out out 'Siri, call 911' after his car plunged into a river and he could not find his phone.
As his car plummeted into the river he rolled down the windows and then started looking for his phone. He tried to find his phone to call for help as his Jeep sank into the rising water.
Salcedo was driving to college in Iowa when his Jeep hit a patch of ice on the road and veered into the freezing Winnebago River. Firefighters quickly arrived and helped him walk through the strong current. Salcedo used Siri to alert the emergency services by shouting out 'call 911'.
Officials with the Mason City Fire Department quickly arrived at the scene, but the river current meant the driver's side door could not open.
The water started rising so Salcedo had to get out the passenger door and walk to safety through the deep river. Salcedo told KIMT: 'I turned to the right and from there, everything just went blurry. I didn't know where I was going and then I just didn't know what to do.
'I was just thinking in my head. I think I'm going to die.'
'You're going to have to walk out. I'll be right there with you holding on every step of the way.' With the firefighter's help, Salcedo was able to make it out of the river to safety.Describing his walk through the freezing waters, Salcedo said he kept falling as he struggled to get to the riverbank.
