Sun Direct TV is all set to roll out the High Definition services in India from this Christmas. HD will redefine the television viewing experience in the country. Sun Direct test launched the first-ever High Definition (HD) service on DTH platform in India in April 2009 and is now launching a service of bouquet of 5 channels, Hindi GEC, Tamil GEC, English Movies, Kids, Educational and Tamil/Telugu Movies in India.
Samsung India is partnering with Sun Direct to promote High Definition content. The Company will be giving consumers an experience of Full HD content by showcasing Samsung Full HD LCD TVs with Sun Direct at the Samsung Brand Shops and select multi-brand outlets. In fact, Samsung India was the first company to launch Full HD LCD televisions in the Indian market and today offers Full HD capability across its LCD and LED TV ranges in screen sizes 32” and above. Samsung Telecommunications System Division will be manufacturing the High Definition Set Top Boxes for Sun Direct. The Sun Direct STBs will be Dolby Digital ready and the company will be entering into a marketing collaboration with Sun Direct to drive awareness, adoption of 5.1 surround sound using Dolby technologies amongst consumers in India

Availability of HD content has been a major constraint in the launch of the services as there were no HD channels in the past. With the full-fledged launch of a package of 5 HD services Sun Direct will be the first DTH player in India to provide high-definition TV experience to consumers. The other salient features will be value-added services and gaming. We believe the Commonwealth Games next year will unveil this next- generation of television viewing in India as the same will be telecast in HD, in addition to the national and international sporting events which are under discussion. Not only this, FIFA 2010 and IPL3 would be all the more enjoyed as a result.
