Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) clarified at its 30th annual general meeting (AGM) that the company is not under investigation in relation to the recent cyber breach at one of its largest retail clients, Marks & Spencer. Keki Mistry, independent director, addressing shareholders said that the purview of investigation does not include TCS. Responding to a shareholder query regarding the breach at UK-based Marks & Spencer, Mistry said that this incident is currently under review and investigation by the customer.
M&S, the British retailer had to shut its online operations for over three weeks due to the incident, potentially impacting profits by GBP 300 million.
Mistry further emphasized that TCS's systems and users remained secure, ensuring no impact on other clients. He added that TCS adhered to established procedures and continues to support the full recovery of systems and business operations. Reports in May suggested TCS might have been the entry point for the cyberattack on the UK retailer, but Mistry confirmed TCS is not under investigation.
"'This incident is currently under review and investigation by the customer," Mistry said, referring to the incident which had forced the British retailer to close its online business for over three weeks and is estimated to dent the operating profit by GBP 300 million.
"The purview of the investigation does not include TCS," Mistry added.
