UP Police busted a racket operating out of Badaun and Amroha exploiting vulnerabilities in the UIDAI system to alter Aadhaar records.
In a major cybercrime breakthrough, the UP Police has busted a sophisticated identity fraud network spanning 12 Indian states. The operation was led by a joint cyber team under SP Sambhal Krishna Kumar Bishnoi and ASP Anukriti Sharma, who uncovered a racket that manipulated biometric data linked to Aadhaar cards. The fraudsters, operating primarily from Badaun and Amroha, allegedly exploited loopholes in the UIDAI system to tamper with the biometric identities of over 1,500 individuals.
The investigation led to the arrest of four key members of the network, who are believed to have facilitated fraudulent Aadhaar enrolments and document falsification, which were then used for various fraudulent activities in India, including passport forgery, financial fraud, and illegal access to government services. Authorities also discovered tampered biometric devices, fake IDs, and laptops containing sensitive data during the raid.
The accused have been booked under multiple sections of the Aadhaar Act, the Information Technology Act, and the Passport Act, with charges including identity theft, cheating, and unauthorised access to protected systems.
This UP Police crackdown marks a significant step in combating digital fraud and protecting the integrity of India’s biometric and identity systems. Officials say further arrests and investigations are likely as the racket may have deeper connections nationwide. The case highlights the growing challenge of high-tech fraud in India and the urgent need for stronger cybersecurity frameworks.
