Uttarakhand Gets First NVIDIA AI & HPC Research Hub at Graphic Era University

 

In a significant milestone for AI research and digital innovation, Uttarakhand’s first NVIDIA-powered Artificial Intelligence (AI) and High-Performance Computing (HPC) facility has been inaugurated at Graphic Era University, Dehradun. The state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence for AI, Skill Development, and Innovation spans 1.5 lakh sq. ft. and is equipped with the latest NVIDIA DGX B200 system, offering eight high-performance GPUs and 1.74 TB GPU memory to accelerate research in sectors like healthcare AI, agricultural technology, environmental sustainability, smart cities solutions, and advanced industrial automation.

Developed at an investment of over ₹10 crore, this cutting-edge AI research hub aligns with India’s national missions including Digital India, Startup India, and Skill India. The centre also hosts an Apple iOS Development Centre, established in collaboration with Apple and Infosys, promoting app development and mobile technology innovation across industries.

Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, emphasized the transformative role AI plays in improving access to healthcare, such as AI-powered telemedicine, especially in rural regions. He cautioned that while AI brings unmatched opportunities, ethical and responsible innovation must guide its use, warning against threats like deepfakes and online misinformation.

 

Graphic Era University, ranked 48th by NIRF 2025 and accredited with NAAC A+, has become India’s first Generative AI-ready campus powered by AWS cloud solutions. By bridging academic research, industry collaborations, and startup ecosystems, the initiative is poised to shape Uttarakhand’s and India’s future as a global AI innovation hub.
