YouTube change its metrics, users complain
Recently YouTube, Google has started showing metrics in lakhs and crores instead of millions and billions in India. This recent change includes metrics such as likes/dislikes and views counts. However, this change is only visible to YouTube’s Android app. Desktop and iOS apps still show the old style metrics in millions and billions.
Well, YouTube didn’t announce anything related to that and surprisingly rolled out this change on YouTube. While some of the existing users are still getting metrics in millions, many users are getting this new change reflected on their YouTube app.
This change in view count will naturally be applicable only to Indian viewers but it may end up causing confusion. YouTube has so far determined view counts in thousands, millions and billions for creators and viewers globally. Now, if an Indian user wants to understand how many views a video has received, he may need to calculate it in Indian metrics.
While, some users have already started complaining about this new change on social media platforms, some have also pointed out that changing the location to a different region shows the view counts as millions and billions.
Currently, this update seems to be rolling out gradually to the Indian users as we still don’t have this change reflected on the YouTube app.
