The rebranding of Microsoft Office to Microsoft 365 Copilot is part of a broader strategy that highlights the growing role of AI in the company's offerings
In a bold move that reflects its ongoing shift toward AI, Microsoft has retired its iconic “Office” brand, renaming its productivity suite to “Microsoft 365 Copilot.” This rebranding, which was unveiled by Windows Latest, marks a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to redefine the future of work through artificial intelligence. The new logo features the "M365" badge placed atop the Copilot logo, signaling a fresh, future-focused identity.
At the heart of this transformation is the integration of AI-powered productivity tools throughout Microsoft 365 applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote. These tools will now feature Copilot features that automate tasks, generate content, and provide intelligent insights, all designed to enhance productivity. In addition, Microsoft is introducing Microsoft Designer, an AI-powered app that helps users edit and create images, bringing creative tools to the forefront of their productivity experience.
A strategic move towards AI and subscription changes
The rebranding of Microsoft Office to Microsoft 365 Copilot is part of a broader strategy that highlights the growing role of AI in the company's offerings. Microsoft’s integration of Copilot features across its suite reflects its vision to position AI as an essential tool for modern businesses. This transition builds on the earlier rebranding of Bing Chat to “Copilot” in November 2023, which emphasized AI’s potential to revolutionize communication and customer service.

As part of this shift, Microsoft has also raised subscription prices for Microsoft 365. This price increase, which marks the first hike since 2013, aligns with the added value of integrating Copilot features into the service. Subscribers will now be able to access powerful AI capabilities, positioning Microsoft as a leader in the Microsoft Office evolution.
By incorporating AI into the very fabric of Microsoft 365, the company is ensuring that businesses can unlock new efficiencies and capabilities, making their workflows smarter and more agile. This move not only revolutionizes how people work but also solidifies Microsoft’s commitment to shaping the future of work through cutting-edge innovation.
With the introduction of Microsoft 365 Copilot, Microsoft is not only rebranding a legacy but also ushering in a new era where AI empowers individuals and businesses alike to achieve more.
