In a bold move to redefine the future of cybersecurity operations, Zscaler has announced its intent to acquire managed detection and response (MDR) leader Red Canary, blending Zero Trust security with AI-fueled threat intelligence and automated remediation. The acquisition is set to close in August, though terms remain undisclosed.
Zscaler CEO Jay Chaudhry called the acquisition a strategic expansion of the company's capabilities into MDR and threat operations, reinforcing Zscaler’s long-term vision of building an AI-powered security operations center (SOC) of the future. “This integration brings together Red Canary’s behavioral analytics and remediation workflows with Zscaler’s security data fabric and global intelligence,” said Chaudhry.
Founded in 2014, Red Canary has grown into a trusted MDR player with over 500 employees and $130 million in funding. CEO Brian Beyer emphasized Red Canary’s mission to provide proactive, intelligence-led security support, underscoring their unique model of platform-neutral, high-fidelity detection and 24/7 support. Their open-source tool, Atomic Red Team, will remain active and supported post-acquisition.
Red Canary’s strength lies in collecting and contextualizing audit data from AWS, Azure, and Okta, going beyond traditional alert systems. Combined with Zscaler’s massive scale—processing 500 billion signals daily—this will dramatically enhance threat detection accuracy, reduce false positives, and accelerate response.
Both companies are aligned in shifting cybersecurity from reactive to contextual, AI-powered detection. Red Canary's model, which avoids unsustainable capital burn, is expected to thrive further with Zscaler’s infrastructure, enabling faster innovation and greater adversary visibility.
Existing Red Canary partners and integrations will remain intact, and customers can expect enhanced AI precision, broader threat insights, and a more seamless SOC experience.
This acquisition follows Zscaler’s recent spree of security-driven buys, including Airgap Networks, Avalor, Canonic Security, and ShiftRight, strengthening its position as a dominant force in cybersecurity innovation.
