Apple has launched a cutting-edge feature called Visual Intelligence with its iOS 18.2 update, aiming to rival Google Lens. This new technology harnesses the iPhone's advanced camera capabilities to deliver instant insights about objects and surroundings in real-time.
Currently available exclusively on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, Visual Intelligence leverages Apple's hardware and software integration to provide detailed information about objects, locations, and text. The feature is designed to enhance user experiences by blending AI-powered analysis with seamless usability.
To use Visual Intelligence, users must ensure their devices are updated to iOS 18.2 or later. The process is straightforward: launch the Camera app, press and hold the Camera Control button—a new addition on the iPhone 16 models—and point the camera at an object or location. The system then identifies the subject, offering information such as names, descriptions, and relevant details. Depending on the context, users can perform actions like contacting businesses, checking reviews, or making reservations directly through the app.
The feature also extends its capabilities to text analysis. By pointing the camera at any text and holding the Camera Control button, users can translate, summarize, or read the text aloud. Additional functionalities include identifying contact details, creating calendar events, and sending emails.
An innovative integration with ChatGPT further enhances Visual Intelligence’s utility. Users can ask the AI for detailed information about objects or places by simply directing their camera and posing questions. This adds a conversational layer to the experience, making it intuitive and interactive.
Apple’s introduction of Visual Intelligence underscores its commitment to advancing AI-driven technologies, offering users a dynamic tool for exploring and interacting with the world around them.
