Delhi residents will now have the opportunity to contribute to road safety and earn cash rewards using the Delhi Traffic Police’s Traffic Prahari app. The app encourages citizens to report traffic violations, with verified reports making users eligible for rewards of up to Rs 50,000 every month. The Traffic Prahari app, which was relaunched on September 1, 2024, is available for both Android and iOS users via the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
After downloading the app, users must register using a mobile number and verify it through a one-time password (OTP). Once registered, users can start submitting reports of traffic violations.
To file a complaint -
• Capture a photo or video of the violation clearly showing the vehicle number.
• Ensure the image includes the timestamp and GPS location (automatically attached by the app).
• Upload the file through the app’s interface and submit.
The Delhi Traffic Police team will then verify each complaint. If it meets the criteria, a challan is issued to the offender. Reports are thoroughly reviewed to prevent misuse and false reporting.
To incentivize active participation, the Delhi Police has introduced a monthly reward system -
• The top contributor each month receives Rs 50,000.
• Second, third, and fourth place contributors receive Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000, and Rs 10,000 respectively.
The initiative builds on the earlier 2015 Traffic Sentinel Scheme and uses new technology for improved public participation. Citizens have formed local WhatsApp groups to coordinate their efforts, dividing zones across the city to cover more ground efficiently.
