Dell, Super Micro to provide server racks for xAI’s supercomputer

Dell Technologies and Super Micro Computer will reportedly be providing server racks for the supercomputer that Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence startup xAI is building.

San Francisco-based Super Micro, which has close ties with chip firms like Nvidia and its liquid-cooling technology, confirmed the partnership with xAI. Dell's association in terms of assembling half of the racks for xAI’s supercomputer has been confirmed by Musk on X.

In a post on X, Dell CEO Michael Dell said that the company was building an "AI factory" with artificial-intelligence heavyweight Nvidia that would power the next version of xAI's chatbot Grok.

Musk informed his investors that the artificial intelligence startup xAI is considering building a supercomputer. It will power the next version of its AI chatbot Grok, according to a news report in May.

Musk aims to have the supercomputer operational by the fall of 2025. This initiative points to xAI's mission to challenge leading AI companies such as Microsoft-backed OpenAI and Alphabet's Google. Musk, who co-founded OpenAI, is positioning xAI as a formidable competitor in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
