Dixon Technologies Invests ₹10 Billion in Chennai Plant, Boosting Tamil Nadu's Electronics Sector
2025-04-13
Dixon Technologies, a leading electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider, has committed ₹1,000 crore to establish a new production facility near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This investment aims to expand the region's technological infrastructure and generate approximately 5,000 employment opportunities.
The agreement, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding, designates the Indospace Industrial Park in Oragadam, situated 45 kilometers south of Chennai, as the site for the new plant. This facility will specialize in the assembly of laptops and all-in-one personal computers, while also offering EMS capabilities to other technology companies.
Dixon Technologies, known for its partnerships with global brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, and OnePlus, will construct the unit within Kancheepuram district. This expansion aligns with Tamil Nadu's broader initiative to attract substantial investments and cultivate a robust electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
Since May 2021, the state government has successfully secured numerous MoUs, resulting in investment pledges exceeding ₹10 trillion and promising the creation of over 3.2 million jobs. This drive supports the state's ambitious goal of achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
Tamil Nadu's economic performance has been notable, achieving a 9.69% growth rate in the fiscal year 2024-2025, according to official economic reports. This growth positions the state as a leading economic performer within India.
TRB Rajaa, Tamil Nadu's Minister of Industries, highlighted the state's dedication to developing a $100 billion electronics manufacturing hub. He welcomed Dixon Technologies and other companies establishing production in the region.
Despite a 2% increase in Dixon Technologies' stock value on the day of the announcement, the company’s share price has experienced significant declines over the past year. This investment, however, is seen as a positive step for the company's long-term growth and its contribution to Tamil Nadu's burgeoning electronics sector.
