IBM and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) have joined forces to establish a National AI Lab at AICTE’s headquarters in New Delhi, marking a significant step in India’s AI skill development initiative.
The lab, announced on October 31, 2025, will serve as a premier center for AI research, training, and innovation, equipped with advanced computing infrastructure and AI software accessible to all AICTE-affiliated institutions across India.
Central to the initiative is IBM’s global SkillsBuild program, which offers free access to over 1,000 courses in AI and related technologies. The partnership aims to skill 2 million Indian learners in AI by 2026, aligning with IBM’s global target to train 30 million people worldwide by 2030.
Beyond online learning, the lab will host in-person workshops, mentorship from IBM experts, project-based learning, and innovation challenges, promoting practical skills and real-world AI applications.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted this collaboration’s importance in merging industry expertise with academic excellence to empower Indian youth with future-ready skills.
This initiative is expected to strengthen India’s position as a global hub for technological innovation, fostering inclusive growth and preparing the next generation for the digital economy’s demands. The National AI Lab is poised to become a cornerstone of India’s AI-driven future workforce development.
