Glass bridge is finally a reality in India, as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on December 30 inaugurated the 77-meter-long groundbreaking structure linking the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the Thiruvalluvar statue in Kanyakumari. The bridge, which stretches 10 meters in width, is the first of its kind in India and offers visitors a unique vantage point, providing captivating views of the two monuments and the surrounding coastline.
The bridge, constructed at a cost of Rs 37 crore by the state government, was unveiled on the occasion of the silver jubilee of the Thiruvalluvar statue’s unveiling by the late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. Designed to withstand the region’s salty air, the bridge features a bowstring arch design, adding to the area’s allure.
Tourism officials have described the bridge as an exciting new addition, offering tourists the thrill of walking above the sea while enjoying scenic vistas. It is expected to boost tourism and enhance Kanyakumari’s status as a key destination.
During the inauguration, Chief Minister Stalin, alongside Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, state ministers, and MP Kanimozhi, walked across the bridge. The event also featured a dazzling laser light show at the Thiruvalluvar statue, marking a significant milestone for the region.
The glass bridge brings a modern touch to Kanyakumari’s historical landmarks, seamlessly blending innovation with the region's rich cultural heritage.See What’s Next in Tech With the Fast Forward Newsletter
