As the Indian government intensifies its focus on the deep tech sector, Karnataka is taking a significant step forward by planning to establish a 'Deep Tech' park at Jangamakote. This ambitious initiative is expected to bolster India's position as a global technology hub, supporting key industries such as spacetech, semiconductors, drones, electric vehicles (EVs), electronics, aerospace, and defense.

Deep tech—characterized by cutting-edge advancements in artificial intelligence, machine learning, quantum computing, robotics, and biotechnology—has become a strategic priority for India. The proposed Deep Tech park at Jangamakote aims to create an integrated ecosystem that will facilitate research, innovation, and large-scale manufacturing in high-impact sectors.
This initiative aligns with India's larger vision of achieving technological self-reliance and reducing dependency on imports for critical technologies, particularly in semiconductors and defense manufacturing. The park will provide infrastructure, research facilities, and policy support to encourage startups, enterprises, and global investors to participate in India's deep tech growth story.
In April, Karnataka’s IT Minister Priyank Kharge underscored the need for the government and industry bodies to work together in establishing a deep tech innovation cluster in Bengaluru. This vision is now taking shape with the proposed Deep Tech park, which will serve as a hub for startups and enterprises specializing in next-generation technologies.
Apart from Jangamakote, Karnataka is also expanding its industrial and innovation ecosystem by planning additional hubs across the state. One such notable initiative is the development of a startup park in Hubballi. The goal is to decentralize innovation and technology growth, ensuring that cities beyond Bengaluru also benefit from investments in emerging industries.
Boost to Semiconductor and Spacetech Manufacturing
India has been aggressively pushing for semiconductor manufacturing, and Karnataka is at the forefront of this movement. The Deep Tech park will provide the necessary infrastructure for chip fabrication, design, and packaging—an essential component of India's semiconductor mission. Additionally, the state's strong aerospace and defense sector will benefit from enhanced manufacturing capabilities and research facilities in spacetech and drone technologies.
The establishment of the Deep Tech park is expected to attract significant investments from both domestic and international technology companies. Startups focusing on AI-driven automation, quantum computing, and advanced materials will find a conducive environment for growth, backed by government incentives and industry collaborations.
With the increasing demand for EVs and sustainable transportation solutions, the park will also play a crucial role in advancing India’s electric mobility goals. The electronics manufacturing sector, a key pillar of the 'Make in India' initiative, is expected to see accelerated growth with better access to supply chains and talent.
