Nvidia and Microsoft Commit Up to $15 Billion to Fuel Anthropic’s AI Ambitions

In a landmark agreement signaling the intensifying AI arms race, Microsoft and Nvidia have together committed up to $15 billion to invest in AI startup Anthropic. Microsoft is poised to contribute up to $5 billion, while Nvidia is set to invest as much as $10 billion. 

Under the deal, Anthropic has pledged to purchase around $30 billion in cloud-compute capacity from Microsoft’s Azure platform—leveraging Nvidia’s latest AI processor architectures.This move tightly binds all three companies in a structure where Microsoft and Nvidia are both investors and contractors to Anthropic, exemplifying the growing “circular” nature of AI industry financing. 

Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI executives, Anthropic is the maker of the “Claude” family of AI models and has been focused on scaling high-end generative AI capabilities with a pronounced emphasis on safety and ethics. The fresh capital infusion is expected to raise Anthropic’s valuation to more than $300 billion—with some sources estimating around $350 billion—placing the startup among the most valuable private companies globally. 

For Microsoft, the deal diversifies its AI alliances beyond OpenAI and strengthens its Azure offering with access to Anthropic’s models. Nvidia gains a guaranteed major customer for its AI hardware and deeper foothold in model-engineering collaborations. Analysts note, however, that the staggering size of the investment underlines both the promise and risks of the current AI boom—with some questioning whether the market is heading toward a bubble. 

In sum, this investment underscores the strategic premium being placed on control of AI infrastructure, compute capacity and frontier models—moving the battleground for AI dominance firmly into the territory of large-scale capital deployment and ecosystem construction.
