The Income Tax Department has conducted a raid at Bastian, the upscale pub in Bengaluru co-owned by Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, according to sources familiar with the development. The action is part of a wider investigation into alleged financial irregularities and suspected discrepancies in tax filings linked to the hospitality venture.
Officials reportedly carried out searches at the pub premises as well as at related locations, examining financial records, transaction details, and digital data. The focus of the inquiry is understood to be on income declarations, cash transactions, and possible mismatches between reported revenues and actual business receipts.
Bastian is a well-known luxury dining and nightlife brand with a strong presence in major Indian cities, attracting high-profile clientele. The Bengaluru outlet, in particular, has gained popularity for its premium positioning and celebrity association.
Sources indicated that the raid was conducted as part of routine enforcement activity and should not be seen as an indication of guilt at this stage. The Income Tax Department has not issued an official statement detailing the findings of the search, and the investigation is said to be ongoing.
Neither Shilpa Shetty nor the management of Bastian has publicly commented on the raid so far. Such actions, however, underline the tax authorities’ continued scrutiny of high-revenue hospitality businesses and celebrity-linked enterprises to ensure compliance with India’s tax laws.
