S. N Tripathi, IAS, Secretary-Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs- Govt. Of India shared his perspective on Digital India and the scope that e-governance offers to every citizen.Today, country is aiming for what we called as 3 billion things- one billion jan-dhan account 1 billion aadhaar card, one billion mobile phones so that delivery of govt. services which are possible digitally at least they can be delivered. Who could have imagined that 29 crores of accounts will open in jan-dhan was it possible without jan-dhan which was not adopted by the banks. Earlier everyone has to walk 3 miles to get his one hundred rupee from a bank. Today, you can transfer the money by using BHIM application without going anywhere and we are still in the country where nothing much has changed except digital.
Secondly, digital landscape is changed so much that any reversely simple impossible, security issues is highly concerned, privacy concerns, data selling, data thieves, even data dacoits are emerging. Your data can be sold in 10 times or even thousand times in a day without your knowledge. Even the consent they asked, I don’t think any of us ever read it even Tim cook must not have read when he says I accept the condition of when I download ios3 or ios 11 even his whole team was involved in this security audit they do not have read 12 pages that too in .6 font.
All this happening seamlessly, the company knows everything about you, what you are eating, where you are going everything. Disruption in terms of technology has happen in such a manner that now even happiness is at stake. I always believed that privacy is at stake but it can be secured through laws but happiness can’t be secured through laws because I become restless the moment I receives one notification.
Technology can disrupt your peace and tranquillity. It’s a big convenience one can understand, but convenience at a cost. I am one of those who believe that digital has lots of possibility but digital also has to have the responsibility in-built. Today in environment of AI, IT, IoT, deep learning and all those kind things we have no choice but to learn these things and maybe learn as fast as possible. We missed revolution1 because we were colonised at that time, we missed revolution no.2 because we had no resources at that time but We need not miss 4.0 industrial revolution because we have the capability. AI and digital technologies can make us also producers of goods and services of the world. Those days are not far.
