Breaking News
At Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, Deutsche Telekom unveiled its Magenta AI Call Assistant, a first-of-its-kind service that embeds AI directly into the telecommunications network, eliminating the need for apps or special devices. The assistant allows users to access real-time AI support during phone calls, offering translation, call summaries, and contextual guidance across a range of everyday situations.
AI-Powered Calls without Apps
Developed in partnership with ElevenLabs and integrated at the network level by Radisys, the Magenta AI Call Assistant activates with the phrase “Hey Magenta” during a phone call. Once activated, it provides services such as:
- Live translation across multiple languages
- Conversation summaries for follow-ups and important details
- Contextual assistance, including answering questions and retrieving relevant information
Unlike traditional AI assistants, the Magenta AI Call Assistant operates entirely within the network, requiring no premium hardware or additional applications. Deutsche Telekom ensures that spoken content is only processed when explicitly activated, and participants are notified when the assistant is active, meeting strict European data-protection standards.
Abdu Mudesir, Board Member of Product & Technology at Deutsche Telekom, said, “With Magenta AI, we remove barriers—no apps, no special devices, no technical complexity. AI becomes simple, intuitive, and available to everyone.”
Practical Use Cases and Future Plans
The assistant can help users in daily scenarios, such as coordinating appointments, suggesting restaurants, planning trips, making bookings, and translating conversations in real time. It can also guide users through tasks like filling forms or confirming reservations, integrating seamlessly into ongoing conversations.
Mati Staniszewski, CEO of ElevenLabs, highlighted the collaboration: “Together with Deutsche Telekom, we are redefining what a phone call can be. For the first time, AI agents are embedded directly inside a call—breaking language barriers, providing context, and taking action in real time.”
The service will initially roll out to Deutsche Telekom customers in Germany in 2026, with support for up to 50 languages expected over the next year. Additional features and services are planned to expand its capabilities, further transforming how users interact over the phone.
By integrating AI directly into the network, Deutsche Telekom positions the Magenta AI Call Assistant as a revolutionary step toward intelligent, context-aware communication for personal and professional use.
