Adani’s spectrum deal dates back to August 2022, when ADNL secured the rights to the 26 GHz millimeter wave band during the 5G auctions. Despite obtaining a Unified License in October 2022 to provide telecom services nationwide, the Adani Group never rolled out its 5G offerings. This dormant spectrum is now being transferred to Airtel, which already holds a strong presence in the 3.5 GHz band—a key frequency for 5G.
By adding the 400 MHz spectrum from Adani, Airtel’s spectrum acquisition ensures a robust combination of mid-band and high-band frequencies, enabling the telecom giant to deliver faster speeds, lower latency, and more reliable connections as part of its growing Airtel 5G expansion strategy.
Boosting Airtel's 5G Ambitions in 2025
The acquisition marks a pivotal moment in Bharti Airtel’s 5G plans, giving the company a pan-India footprint in both the 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz bands—essential for both urban and rural 5G deployments. As competition heats up with Jio and other players, this move allows Airtel to better cater to high-demand applications such as enterprise services, IoT deployments, smart city initiatives, and cloud gaming.
Airtel has already launched 5G services in over 5,000 towns and cities, and this latest development further accelerates its mission to bring next-gen connectivity to every corner of India. The Airtel 5G rollout now stands to benefit from greater bandwidth and capacity, particularly in densely populated regions and emerging digital hubs.
As the country races toward full-scale 5G adoption, strategic deals like this underline the growing importance of spectrum as a critical asset. With this acquisition, 5G in India 2025 looks set for rapid progress, fueled by telecom leaders like Airtel investing in infrastructure and advanced technology.
This move not only strengthens Airtel’s service capabilities but also highlights the evolving dynamics of India’s telecom sector—where spectrum utilization is becoming central to digital transformation.
