Amazon said that the recent reports of the company planning another major round of layoffs in May 2026 is not true. The company has termed these claims “false and not based in fact,” responding to speculation around third round of layoffs targeting around 14,000 jobs cuts across multiple teams. The reports surfaced on online forums and tech portals suggesting that this would be the third significant layoff wave at Amazon within a year and that it could impact employees across divisions such as Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The claims about a potential third round of job cuts first surfaced on workplace discussion platform Blind and were also reported by Chinese-language tech portal Lei Feng Network.
The reports further suggested that mid-level managers and white-collar roles at job levels L5 to L7 could be the primary focus, while warehouse and logistics staff may not be affected.
Amazon however has refuted these rumours calling them inaccurate and not based on facts.
The denial from the company comes amid growing speculation around restructuring within the company, especially as discussions around automation and operational efficiency continue across the tech industry.
Amazon has already reduced its corporate workforce significantly, cutting around 14,000 roles in October 2025 and another 16,000 in January 2026. These layoffs were part of a broader effort led by CEO Andy Jassy to streamline operations and reduce management layers.
